About the artist:

Meesh QX is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans a range of mediums including sculpture, photography, drawing, video, and audio installation. For the 2019 Central Island Studio Tour, Meesh will be showcasing a selection of works that explores ideas of illusion and perception. One such artwork on display will be the interactive drawing ‘You the Image.’ For this artwork, Meesh invites viewers to don a viewing mask that alters their visual perception of the drawing. Also on display will be the photo series ‘Staged,’ in which Meesh encourages viewers to carefully inspect the staging of two seemingly opposite still lifes. In the stop motion video ‘Everything that Touches Me’ viewers get carried through a narrative flow of dream-like illusions. Whereas, the audio installation ‘Listening Bodies’ invites the viewer to draw their ears close to two humanoid wooden pillars which emanate murmured audio narratives. A selection of original zines, or small booklets of narrative text and artwork will also be available for purchase. By creating interactive art Meesh hopes that viewers will accept the invitation to slow down and contemplate on a multi-sensory level.

As recent graduate of the North Island College Fine Art Diploma, Meesh will continue their interdisciplinary art practice both by independently creating artwork and accepting commissions or opportunities to collaborate on creative projects within the community.
