I create artwork depicting wildlife and nature in a realistic and detailed style in acrylic, oil, and scratchboard. I have been inspired by nature since I was young and particularly by the art of internationally recognized wildlife painter, Robert Bateman. I am mostly self-taught and I have been painting wildlife in acrylic for about 30 years. I am presently a Signature Member of The Society of Animal Artists, a renowned organization of the best animal artists worldwide. (www.societyofanimalartists.com) and have shown my art in several of their Annual exhibitions, as well as other international exhibitions.
I use hardboard or stretched canvas for my acrylic and oil paintings. Scratchboard is an ink-coated clay board and involves using sharp tools to scratch the ink away to reveal the white clay, creating a highly detailed black and white image. I add colour to the image with coloured inks.
I work in a highly detailed style in painting and scratchboard, using photos (taken by my husband) for reference. I work in small and also fairly large format, starting from as small as 5” to 40 or 50” across. My paintings and scratchboards can take weeks to complete depending on size.
My husband designs and manages my website, photographs and catalogues my work, assists me with administration, sales, shipping artwork, and attending shows and takes my reference photos.
Plaque mounting is an affordable and simple way to enjoy Heather’s fine art. Your artwork print is laminated directly onto a high-density fiberboard. The laminate is a protective film that will guard the print against UV light and moisture while keeping your print looking clean. Hanging the print in direct sunlight is not recommended. The edges of the plaque are finished with a black or gold bevel. All of the plaques will come with a wire attached to the back and ready to hang.
