Art Mates is a group of painters that meet weekly. We enjoy exchanging tips, discussing our work and the conversation in general is lively!
We all have different styles, we paint mostly in acrylic, but also watercolour, and watercolour and ink. You will see landscapes, seascapes, animals, still life, and abstract.
Hopefully we’ll see lots of people at the Studio Tour, looking forward to it!”
Artist Bios:
Carol Gregson
I was first introduced to acrylic painting in 2010 when I signed up for classes with Teresa Knight, an artist from Union Bay. Teresa really opened my eyes to see the world around me. Colours, shapes, shadows and especially the light. I enjoy landscape painting and usually paint from my own photos. Here on Vancouver Island there are so many wonderful views everywhere one looks. I have tried my hand at watercolour, and I especially enjoy watercolour and ink, something I will continue to pursue.
Susan Steele
I have always had an artistic and entrepreneurial spirit. I trained at Ryerson University in Toronto as a dance
teacher, taught ballet and founded a folk-dance company. Later in BC I studied for a degree in Business Management and provided leadership for 3 companies in the East Kootenays and Vancouver Island, spanning 25 years.
I started painting in oils and watercolours in my 30’s while living in Victoria. Following in my Father’s footsteps who was also a hobby painter. I frequently paint pictures using my own photographs as inspiration. Photos from homes in BC, Ontario, and visits to Bermuda and Montana appear in my paintings.
Now retired with more time on my hands, I began painting again using acrylics and am learning the techniques of that medium and enjoying the camaraderie of members of the Art Mates group.
Maggie McPherson
Started my artistic journey 2017 working in acrylics.I enjoy creating and feel that I have come a long way.I love to paint birds and recently have taken up painting bears which has been a challenge.I will try my hand at most subject material but have yet to try water colours or oil painting.
Pat Edwards
I have been painting for about 12 years and love getting together with the girls at Art Mates every Wednesday. I enjoy life painting and also studies of animals. I work in watercolours, pastels and acrylics. I love when you paint the eyes of animals they seem to come to life. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the studio tour.
